I haven't had a book subscription box for a couple of years now and, since I'm still on the waitlist for FairyLoot, I decided to order a one-off Book Box Club box as an early Christmas gift to myself. Before we get started, here's a quick reminder of this month's theme reveal: Our December theme will be MIRACLES AT MIDNIGHT and will be a celebration of whimsy and wonder after dark! 🌠❄️As a special treat...THIS BOX WILL CONTAIN TWO BOOKS!📖📖⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❄️About the Featured Read: Our December read is set overlooking the rooftops of Paris and tells the tale of a group of travellers who discover unexpected magic in their new city-life. Banished from their troubled homeland, they find themselves adrift in Paris as beautiful flowers radiating moonlight transform the city into a new magical world after dark.🌃🌠⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With illuminating characters, an enchanting setting and a narrative that champions human kindness and hope; this is the book that we all need in the Winter of 2020. Fans of Erin Morgenstern and Neil Gaiman will adore this gorgeous hardback.😍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our featured read will arrive beautifully gift-wrapped and will be accompanied by a bookplate signed by the author.👍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❄️About the BONUS BOOK: Book Box Club members will also receive a BONUS BOOK! We've teamed up with our publisher buddies to bring you a list of eight awesome books publishing in 2021. You'll find an advanced reading copy of one book from this list (selected at random) in your December box. Plus you'll receive a full list of our recommended reads for 2021 and access to a digital zine with sample chapters from every selected title! 😍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❄️There will be Goodies! As well as an exclusive invitation to our members only online bookgroup with the author of our featured read, our December box will be crammed with goodies inspired by some of fiction's most miraculous moonlit moments! Small businesses and talented artists have helped create lots of beautiful items especially for our December members. ⠀ I have no idea what the book is but, I love Erin Morgenstern, so I'm really excited! Who's ready to jump in? Obviously, there will be spoilers for this box beyond this point, so stop reading now if you don't want to know what's in this one. Gah! It's so pretty! I'd honestly forgotten the rush and excitement I feel when opening these boxes. I have the biggest grin on my face right now! First up, we have the gorgeous artwork, designed by Book Box Club's resident artist, Ali Jo Art. It's so pretty and giving off gorgeous winter in Paris vibes. It's time for the book! So, the signature on the book says Robert Dinsdale, and I just dashed over to my bookshelves because the name was familiar but I honestly couldn't tell where from. Here it is, Robert Dinsdale is the author of The Toymakers, which has been sitting on my shelves waiting for me to read it for over a year now. I guess this is what I get for not reading more of the books I already own!! But onto the main book, here it is... It's so pretty! The book is Paris in Starlight by Robert Dinsdale (follow the link to Goodreads). Here's the synopsis: When Levon and his family flee their war-torn homeland, they take refuge in the city of Paris and the old stories of their past; the Nocturnes. The Nocturnes have the power to conjure beautiful flowers that radiate moonlight and transform the city into a new magical world after dark. But not everyone is in awe of this new spectacle. How will Paris fare when the night-time wonders threaten to take over the ordinariness of the day and tensions amongst old and new citizens arise? It was released in August of this year and I haven't heard of it before, But it sounds really magical, so I'm really excited to read this one! As always, the featured book comes with an invite to a secret book club chat with the author, which I'm really looking forward to! This box also came with a bunch of related, bookish goodies: Okay, so I love everything in this box!! First up, we have the 'Reading Past My Bed-Time Socks' which were designed and created by Book Box Club. I LOVE these! I'm forever looking for book-ish inspired clothing and can't wait to wear these! Next up is the Miracles at Midnight Pin by Book Box Club. This pin is so cute! I might even gift this to my 6-year-old because she's obsessed with The Little Prince and will just love this starry pin. My absolute favourite item in this book is the Night Circus Decoration by Ewart Studio. The Night Circus is one of my all-time favourite books and so this decoration now has it's own special place on my Christmas tree. Just look at that detail! The final two items in this box are stunning. There's the Cinder's Soap by Thistle Soapery which is absolutely gorgeous. Not only does it smell unreal, when you pull back the blue tissue paper, you see the charcoal soap which has a really beautiful marble-effect design and gold writing. Inspired by Cinderella, this soap contains charcoal, turmeric and tea tree oil and claims to give you glowing skin. I'm looking forward to trying it out, especially as it's natural and cruelty free! The last bookish item is a gorgeous 2021 Unashamedly Bookish Calendar with artwork by Catarina Book Designs. The size of this calendar is perfect for me because I don't have a lot of space. I think I'm going to use this as a reading calendar to keep track of next year's books. It's going to look so pretty on my wall! Another really cool thing about this box, and one of the reasons I ordered it, is that it came with two books! The second book in this box was a mystery book, one of 8 ARCS for books due to be released next year. In my box, I received Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi, which sounds really good, but I'm not sure whether I'll be reading it myself, only because cancer is central to the storyline, which is something that I don't tend to read, due to personal reasons. In addition to this book, Book Box Club has provided a 2021 reading checklist full of their recommended 2021 books and a link to a digital zine where you can read extracts of each book. There are a couple I have my eye on and I can't wait to check them out. Overall, I absolutely love this box! It's my first book box in a really long time and it's brilliant.
I love every item and the books look fantastic! I've also ordered myself the January books-only box because it has a masquerade theme, which I simply can't resist! After this box though, I'm really, really tempted to see if I can upgrade to the full book box for January to see what masquerade items they decided to include as well. What do you think? Thanks for reading 😊 Which item do you like the look of the most? Have you read this book? Let me know in the comments! Comments are closed.
