It's time for my January 2021 Book Box Club unboxing. This box was a lovely birthday gift from my partner and it sounds fantastic! Before we get started, here's a quick reminder of this month's theme reveal: Grab your glad-rags! 💃🎊🎉🎭You are cordially invited to join us for our AT THE MASQUERADE themed January box! We'll be celebrating some of the greatest fictional masked balls, prepare for glitz, glamour and decadent disguises galore!😃⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our January book is one of the most engrossing (and huge!) fantasy novels that we've read in YEARS📖. It follows a mistress of disguise as she takes on the biggest con of her life; to infiltrate one of the city's most ancient families and claim their fortune as her own. In a world where dark curses plague the impoverished streets and a notorious masked stranger stalks the shadows, has this plan gone one step too far? Will our heroine let her facade slip in order to save her life?🤔⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With morally grey characters🎭, psychic card readings🔮 and dazzling parties🍾, this intricately woven novel is the perfect escape from the cold winter months. Fans of Nevernight, Six of Crows and Name of the Wind will adore this paperback, which is the first book in a stunning new trilogy.👍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our featured read will arrive beautifully gift-wrapped and will be accompanied by a bookplate, signed by the authors.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our January box will be crammed with exclusive goodies created by small businesses and inspired by some of fiction's most dazzling parties! Standby for a supplier reveal soon and in the mean-time, get ready to start 2021 with a bookish bang! 😊👍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ January members will be invited to join us in our online Clubhouse (AKA where the REAL party's at!) for book group. Here, you'll get the chance to chat with the author duo who co-wrote our featured read and ask your questions.📖⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Okay, this book sounds incredible and who doesn't love a good masquerade?! Who's ready to jump in? Obviously, there will be spoilers for this box beyond this point, so stop reading now if you don't want to know what's in this one. Eek! As always, we're greeted with truly gorgeous artwork, designed by Book Box Club's resident artist, Ali Jo Art. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all things masquerade and I'm really excited to see what's under all that blue paper! Would you look at all those goodies?!? So, first off, the only thing that's a little unusual about this box is the chocolate bar, which stood out as the odd one out. But hey, chocolate is always good! Next up, I noticed the Great Gatsby candle by Bookish Burns which stands out immediately because of all the sparkles. It's so pretty and smells like peaches. It just makes me sigh happily every time I smell it. The next thing to stand out was the face mask, which I never thought I'd want to find in a book box but hey, this is the time we live in now, and I love the gorgeous design, although I'm not sure who it's by as it's not written on the supplier card, so.... Moving onto the Nevernight bookmark by Another Studio, I really don't own enough pretty bookmarks. I have my everyday use, plain cardboard ones but I absolutely love special bookmarks like this one and it looks gorgeous on my bookshelves. The Sumptuous Supplies List Pad by Book Box Club is great and really pretty. I don't really write lists but I'm sure I'll find a use for this lovely notepad. And then the last item, before the book, my favourite item in the whole box, is the gorgeous Romeo & Juliet tote bag with artwork by Rebecca Strickson. I love the artwork on this bag but I also love the size. It's the perfect size for a couple of paperbacks and much more manageable than my other, much larger totes. Now, time for the book. The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick! Gah, it's beautiful! Here's the synopsis: Fortune favors the bold. Magic favors the liars. Ren is a con artist who has come to the sparkling city of Nadežra with one goal: to trick her way into a noble house, securing her fortune and her sister's future. But as she's drawn into the elite world of House Traementis, she realizes her masquerade is just one of many surrounding her. And as nightmare magic begins to weave its way through the City of Dreams, the poisonous feuds of its aristocrats and the shadowy dangers of its impoverished underbelly become tangled…with Ren at their heart. The Mask of Mirrors is the unmissable start to the Rook & Rose trilogy, a dazzling and darkly magical fantasy adventure by Marie Brennan and Alyc Helms, writing together as M. A. Carrick. This is a brand new book, released just this month and it sounds fantastic! As always, the featured book comes with an invite to a secret book club chat with the author, which I'm really looking forward to! Overall, I am so in love with this box! It's even better than last months and I'm definitely keeping my subscription active for February as the theme sounds amazing!
Thanks for reading 😊 Now tell me, which item do you like the look of the most? Have you read this book? Let me know in the comments! Comments are closed.
