I was so excited when I got a text on Saturday while I was at the NYALitFest letting me know that my FairyLoot box for this month had arrived. I've been seriously looking forward to this box after the phenomenal box we received last month, it was my favourite box so far and I couldn't wait to find out what the July box held, especially after reading the teaser info: We are so excited to reveal that the July theme is ‘The Power Within’! 🖤 This box is inspired by stories where characters are powerful within, whether it’s from magic or just strength and determination. 🖤 The book we are featuring is a brilliant fantasy book where there are women who can manipulate flesh, bones, breath, and blood. We adored this story so much! It’s action packed from the start to finish, with a dash of humour. We’re so excited to reveal that the edition we will be including will be a FairyLoot exclusive as it will have SPRAYED PAGES and will actually be SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR! We cannot wait for you guys to see these stunning unique copies in person! 🖤 This box will have items inspired by Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes, Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, And I Darken by Kiersten White, Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young and Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Even if you haven’t read any of these books you can still enjoy all of these stunning items - promise! 🖤 For the moment all we can reveal is that this box will contain a ✨ MAGIC CERAMIC MUG ✨ … we’ve been so excited to include this item! Let's open it up! A couple of things to mention first: 1. FairyLoot sent out an email on the day letting everyone know that one of the items (a textile item) had been printed incorrectly. The item was an exclusive to FairyLoot tea towel designed by KDP Letters and featuring a quote from And I Darken by Kiersten White - it turns out that the item had been printed in reverse, I'm not quite sure how that happened lol but oh, well. They have promised to replace the item but advised that it could take up to 2 months for this to be received. 2. The box arrived a little damaged (as you can see by the first image) but thankfully it doesn't seem to have damaged any of the items. Although the beautiful print by Tara Spruit is a little dented, but you can hardly see it and as always, the design is simply stunning. 😍😍 I'm going to kick it off with the book first because this is my absolute favourite item this month. The book is so pretty and I love the sound of it! It's called Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton - it's the first book in a series and I can't wait to get started. The book is also extremely pretty both inside and out. It has the stunning cover jacket that you can see above, beneath the cover is a gorgeous black cover with shiny red lettering on the spine. The book has gorgeous red sprayed edges, and truly beautiful illustrations inside. It is without a doubt one of the most beautifully presented books I've ever seen, and the author's signature inside the book is pretty and purple. This edition is exclusive to FairyLoot and won't be available elsewhere. This copy is also received slightly in advance as the book doesn't officially release until July 31st 2018. I'll take a few photos of the inside and post those on Twitter/Instagram as soon as I can so that you can see how truly gorgeous this book is. Alongside the book is the customary FairyLoot bookmark (LOVE IT), this month's edition of Fairy Scoop featuring a special interview with the author and another print featuring two characters from this book drawn by Noverantale, which doubles as a really nice letter from the author. Next up, we have a truly gorgeous print from Diana Worak of Zelie from Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. I absolutely love this book and the print is gorgeous! 😍😍 The next item I'm sadly not so keen on. The exclusive Quidditch pen designed and created by the Fairy Loot team doesn't really live up to the FairyLoot standard of quality that I've come to expect. It's a little all over the place, flimsy and a bit of a weak item, compared to the other items they've included in the past like the Narnia travel mug back in April, and the reading journal last month. The next item, the "Ond Eldr" vinyl sticker designed by Reverie and Ink is cool but I haven't read the Sky In the Deep, the book the item is inspired by, and so I think I probably need to read it to fully appreciate this one. Moving on, we have a beautifully scented room spray from the fantastic people at Geeky Clean. The spray is vegan and cruelty free. It's supposed to smell like lavender but reminds me more of fresh linen which is still really nice. It's called Theron's Study Room and is inspired by Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch (again, I haven't read this) and it's a FairyLoot exclusive item. Lastly, because I didn't bother photographing the tea towel, is the exclusive magical mug as advertised in the teaser! I actually picked up a magical mug yesterday at the NYALitFest which I really, really love, and so I was super excited to get another. This mug has been created exclusively for FairyLoot by Little Inkling Designs. As you can see from the photo below I tested both mugs out last night when I got home. The NYALitFest is on the left, FairyLoot on the right. I'm not sure why, but the FairyLoot mug didn't "change" quite as well as the other. Even though both were filled with boiling water to the same level, some of the design is still hidden and it took over a minute to change compared to the other taking just a few seconds. Also, when picking up the mug, if you touch the 'magical' design anywhere, it leaves black fingerprints which completely covers the design, something that doesn't happen with the NYALitFest mug, so I'm not sure if my mug is potentially faulty... Overall, I can't help but be a little disappointed with this box. To me, it doesn't reflect the quality of items that I've come to expect from past FairyLoot boxes and I don't feel that this box was quite worth the money. I do really love the book, the prints, and the room spray, but I'm a little sad about the quality of the broomstick pen, tea towel and mug. So, fingers crossed that next month's box improves! Feel free to check out the rest of my unboxing photos below and let me know what you think in the comments!

I love this review, I completely agree with you! This month was my second fairyloot box and I couldn’t have been more excited to receive it after last month, but I also feel the same when you say that the quality was slightly off this month. The items included were nowhere near as special or well made as the previous one I had, although I do love the art cards and the book itself is utterly beautiful!

Thanks for reading! It was a real shame, like you said last month was phenomenal and this month just didn't match up. I'm crazy excited to read the book though, which I suppose is the most important part!

Oh no :( that sucks Amelia. If you contact them, they should send you a replacement! You might just need to send them a video to show that it's not working. Fingers cross they sort this out for you! Comments are closed.
