Hey, bookworms!! I had so much fun doing The End of the Year Book last week that I've decided to try and do a new tag every Sunday. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy doing them. This week, I've chosen the, 'How I Choose My Books, Tag'. I saw this tag on Bookishly Rebecca and gave it a go since I don't really get tagged in things anymore (note: if you see this and want to tag me, feel free!) Here goes: Find a book on your bookshelves with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron This was the first blue book that jumped out from my bookshelves. I haven't read it yet, but I can't wait until I do. The character's eyes are captivating, and the blood and dirt on her clothes and face make me want to find out what she's been through. If you haven't read the blurb, check it out because it sounds AMAZING (just click on the photo to visit Goodreads)!! Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff This was the first sci-fi book I ever read. I didn't think of myself as a person who'd enjoy reading sci-fi, but it blew me away with all the twists and turns. The characters are fantastic and I was so immersed in the plot that I just didn't want it to end. Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick a book at random. How did you discover this book? The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg So, my bookshelves are a little full of merch, and I nearly knocked a ton of stuff off doing this one! The Kingdom is a book I found in Waterstones. I saw it on the shelves and the cover jumped out at me. Once I read the synopsis, I knew I had to have it. Although, I still haven't read it yet. Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?The Magician's Guild by Trudi Canavan An old friend recommended that I read The Black Magician Trilogy, and I loved it! I devoured this book and fell in love with Sonea and her story. The mystery and deception are great, and I loved every minute. Now, I just have to finish the series (although a re-read is probably necessary). Pick a book up that you discovered through booktube/bookstagram/book blogs. Did it live up to the hype? The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich & Light Years by Kass Morgan I'm cheating a little here because I had to choose two. The first is The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich, which I found on book Twitter. This book had pretty mixed reviews but, for me, it just clicked. I loved the story and the characters and I'm really excited to read more by this author. My second choice is Light Years by Kass Morgan, which I received as a free ARC in an Illumicrate book box. I freaking LOVED this story. It has a diverse cast, LGBT rep and it's a space-school type plot with an enemies-to-friends cast. I really need to find time for a re-read and to grab the next book in the series. Find a book on your shelves with a one-word title. What drew you to this book?Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell This was a completely impulsive cover-request on NetGalley, and can you blame me!?! I LOVE this series. It contains one of my favourite characters of all time, Reichis, a cinnamon bun in the guise of a bloodthirsty squirrel cat with a penchant for eyeballs and butter biscuits. What book did you discover through a film/TV adaptation? We Bought a Zoo by Benjamin Mee We Bought a Zoo is one of my absolute favourite movies. Every time Elle Fanning smiles, I well up, I don't know why her face does this to me but it does! This book took me completely by surprise because 1. I rarely read or enjoy non-fiction, 2. It's nothing like the movie, 3. It's phenomenal and heartbreaking. I'd highly recommend them both. Think of your all-time favorite book(s). When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place? This is a trick question, right? I can't list all of my favourite books here!! Instead, I've chosen 5 of the first books to jump out at me. Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen: One of the first books I remember reading, and a gift from my mum and dad at Christmas when I was seven. I loved this book but didn't understand a lot of it when I was younger. As an adult, I've now read it several times and can't get enough. Jed Had to Die by Tara Sivec: Tara is one of my absolute favourite romance authors and this ridiculous rom-com has me laughing out loud and close to tears at times. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: I stumbled across this book in the library years ago, and it's now a staple favourite and a book I typically read once a year. I love the fantasy and mystery of this world and long to lose myself in the circus. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune: My most recent favourite! I discovered this book this year, through my existing love of Klune's Tales of Verania series. The characters are so real; they leap from the pages. This book is just a wholesome, warm hug and I can't get enough. The Beast's Heart by Leife Shallcross: This is one of my favourite Beauty and the Beast re-tellings. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book on NetGalley and fell for the beast, hard! I love how original this story is and how it adds so much depth to the characters. Now it's your turn!
I tag anyone who wants to take part! Don't forget to drop your links in the comments so I can come take a look! Comments are closed.
