Happy Sunday book lovers! Instead of the usual book tag post, I decided to try something a little different today. I've never done a book haul blog post before BUT given the recent re-opening of local bookshops, I figured now would be the perfect time to celebrate my recent book hauls along. Before I get to the books themselves, I can't tell you how much I've missed book browsing and book shopping. We have one major bookshop in my town (Waterstones), a couple of smaller shops that stock a few books i.e. (The Works & WHSmith) and one charity bookshop. So, this week, Sophie and I decided to get out to as many as we could, and it was bliss (minus the masks blocking that beautiful bookish scent and our usual coffee and cake as it was far too cold to sit outside)! Right, I'll kick off with my books for now and Sophie will add hers lower down. As always, I'll include links to the books on Goodreads and The StoryGraph so you can easily add to your preferred TBR. The Crooked Mask by Rachel BurgeYou know that feeling you get when you see a book and you're like, I'm taking you home, no questions asked? Well, this was one of those books, a complete cover buy. The cover is stunning and grabbed me immediately. Then, upon reading the blurb, I just know I'm going to love this. It has Norse mythology, a creepy ass circus, ghosts and romance. It instantly made me think of a darker, Norse-themed Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and I am so here for it. My partner read The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge last year and had nothing but praise for it, and after a quick Goodreads search, I've found that this is actually the sequel to The Twisted Tree, not a standalone as I'd first thought, so I guess I'll be reading both!! The Song of Achilles by Madeline MillerI seem to be on a bit of a Greek/Norse gods kick at the moment. I blame several things: 1. Reading Lore by Alexandra Bracken for last month's Turn The Page book club. 2. Watching Myths & Monsters on Netflix 3. Writing a Greek mythology (Artemis!!) inspired YA. After finishing Lore, I really just wanted more mythology. I've had Circe by Madeline Miller on my bookshelves for a while now and while I really want to read that as well, I've been hearing amazing things about The Song of Achilles, so when I saw it on the shelf, I knew I had to get it. I'm ready to be emotionally wrecked by this book! Runemarks by Joanne M. HarrisWe're back to Norse mythology again as I spotted this one tucked away on a shelf and decided it must come home with me, although I did actually buy it accidentally. I'd originally picked up The Testament of Loki, by the same author, and thought it sounded fantastic, but when looking for the first book in the series, this one popped up. It actually turns out that this is an entirely different series but still set in the same world, I think, so I guess I'll see how I get on. Fingers crossed I don't make the same mistake as I did with the Grishaverse series and read everything in the completely wrong order. The Shadow in the Glass by JJA HarwoodI was really lucky to attend an exclusive Q&A with JJA Harwood recently and just hearing her talk about this book, and the feedback from other readers, made me desperate to read it. It's basically a dark re-telling of Cinderella where young Cinders is granted several wishes, but each one comes with a price to pay. I really, really want this to be good as the last Cinderella re-telling I read just wasn't for me at all. I bloody LOVE dark fairytale re-tellings, with Malice by Heather Walter being my new favourite, so I'm really excited for this one! Rule of Wolves by Leigh BardugoThe cover buys are winning today! This was too pretty to leave behind BUT I am planning to work my way through the Grishaverse series. I read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom a couple of years ago, I just finished Shadow and Bone, and so I will get to King of Scars and Rule of Wolves as soon as I can. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. MaasOn the other hand, this was NOT a cover buy at all. I hate the new covers for this series and much prefer the originals, which are the ones I own. But, I did enjoy reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and I do want to find out what happens next, awful cover be damned. I have my fingers crossed for good things from this book, even though Nesta and Cassian aren't my favourite characters, and I'd have really loved a story from Azriel or Mor, but I am ready to get back to the Night Court. The Girl in the Tower & The Winter of the Witch by Katherine ArdenThe Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is one of the most fantastic fantasy books I've read. I loved every single thing about it and it blew me away, so I just had to get the next two books in the series. I'm equal parts nervous and excited to continue with this series because the ending of the first book was almost perfect and I don't know how it's going to move forward. I just hope I'll love the second and third books as much I did the first one. Now, let's move on to Sophie's choices! Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn BayronThis book is our Turn the Page book club pick for April, so I just had to get it! The Gilded Ones by Namina FornaIt has sprayed pages!! The front cover caught my eye and really drew me to this book. Plus, it's recommended to fans of Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adyemi which I really loved. Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice OsemanThis sounds like such a cute, fun read and I've been meaning to read a graphic novel for quite a while. Plus, Kayleigh never stops telling me to read the Heartstopper series! And that's all for now!
We hope you enjoyed this book haul post! Now tell us, do you have any of these books on your TBR? Comments are closed.
