Tell Me Something Tuesday: Popular Book Series! First Chapter, First Paragraph, Tuesday Intros!31/7/2018
Hello lovelies!! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you don't mind that I've decided to change things up a little this week. I was getting a bit tired of doing the TopTenTuesday meme as it takes ages to find ten book covers that fit the theme but the posts themselves were a little bland. So, I found two new memes that I'd like to try and cover in one post that will hopefully make things a little more interesting! First off: Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post on Rainy Day Ramblings where a wide range of topics are discussed from books to blogging. This week's topic is 'What are some popular series you haven't tried or have and stopped because they just don't appeal to you?' This is quite a fun opening question as there are some popular series that I just haven't gotten around to yet and there are some that I didn't enjoy or don't want to read at all because they just don't appeal to me. I know there are some readers who will read a book simply because it's popular, because everyone else is raving about it, and whilst I obviously take reviews into account to some extent when looking at what books to read, I occasionally find myself going against the grain and being drawn to a book by it's synopsis or sampler even though it has awful reviews. Sometimes I end up agreeing with the reviews and don't enjoy the book, other times I discover a book that I truly love. It also works the other way around. Sometimes I'll read a book that has amazing reviews and I'll hate it or at least not enjoy it enough to keep reading. So, on that note here are some popular series I tried to read but couldn't finish/didn't enjoy:
Onto a more positive note, there a quite a few popular book series that I'm really looking forward to starting including; A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Scythe by Neil Shusterman, The Summoner Series by Taran Matharu and To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han. 😍😍😍 I'm so excited to start these!! There are also a few popular series that I'm really excited to continue with after reading the first book in the series:
What about you? What popular book series have you stayed away from or not enjoyed? Up next is the First Chapter, First Paragraph - Tuesday Intros meme. This is a weekly blog meme hosted by Vicki, from I’d Rather Be At The Beach and the idea is to post the first paragraph (or two) of the first chapter of a book you are currently reading or that you want to read. To fit with the topic of Tell Me Something Tuesday, I've chosen to share the first chapter of A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. Kell wore a very peculiar coat. It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible. The first thing he did whenever he stepped out of one London and into another was take off the coat and turn it inside out once or twice (or even three times) until he found the site he needed. Not all of them were fashionable, but they each served a purpose. There were ones that blended in and ones that stood out, and one that served no purpose but of which he was just particularly fond. I actually really like this opening. It grabs me by throwing up loads of questions that I feel I need to find the answers to.
What about you? Would you/have you read this? Feel free to leave your comments and your links in the comments below, and let me know what you think of this new weekly post! 😃 31/7/2018 15:21:02

Haha, if you do read them, I hope you enjoy! I loved the Harry Potter series when I was younger but I'm worried that if I re-read them now I wouldn't feel the same... I'm excited to read this one though! Thanks for stopping by :)

A Darker Shade of Magic is both on my Kindle and my physical TBR mountain. One day, I hope to actually read it. There are so many series that I've begun that i can't begin to remember them all. I did recently finish the Divergent trilogy but didn't go on to read Four despite the copy on my Kindle. This week I am featuring Set the Night on Fire by Laura Trentham. Happy reading!

Haha, mine too - I've been meaning to read it for ages! I haven't read Four either. Thanks, I'll come check it out! 31/7/2018 16:22:18
I've been seeing this author's books everywhere, and while they are not my usual genre, I am curious. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

Is it bad that I have the first two books in the Divergent series and I've only read the first one and have seen all three films and wondered about the fourth, but have no inclination to go back to that series?! For me, I think series that have gone on way too long start to annoy me like The House of Night series by the P.C. Cast and then the Immortals series by Alyson Noel, those started out okay but then they started to stagnate and I was just like..um, no please!

Haha no, it's not bad. I had all of them until I donated them at the NYALitFest last month. I knew I wasn't going to go back and finish the series so... 3/8/2018 20:54:08
I honestly don't know what's keeping me from getting rid of the first books in the Divergent series, one of them is paperback and the other is in hardback and it makes me absolutely crazy when part of my series is in one format and the other is a different one. I literally had no choice with The Vampire Academy series, though. I was buying them as each book was released and as we know, the first three were released as paperback and then the last three were hardback. I suppose I could repurchased the whole series as a series itself all in the new book covers, but why on earth would I do that when I already had them sitting on my shelf?! Alas, this is why I made the decisions that I do and now that I'm finished with that tangent.

Haha, I know what you mean! I haven't read the Vampire Academy series yet although I did enjoy the movie lol that sucks. I waited ages to buy Godsgrave because I had Nevernight in paperback and they released Godsgrave in hardback first. It's a bit stupid really. Haha I feel your pain, especially when I look at my Harry Potter books. The first 4 are paperback and the rest are hardback. I wouldn't want to re-buy them though. Comments are closed.
