I had so much fun doing last week's Friday 56 that I decided to take part again! The Friday 56 is a weekly blog meme hosted by Freda’s Voice. There are only 4 rules:
I'm using this book for my Bookstagram challenges today, which you can check out by following My Endless Shelf on Instagram. I absolutely fell in love with this book last year. Chani is one of my favourite authors. I adore her paranormal YA 'Underworld' series and her paranormal romance novel 'Bad Things Play Here'. Amid Stars and Darkness (Book 1 of the Xenith Trilogy) was the first sci-fi book I ever read and it's fantastic. The characters are vivid and complex, the plot is fantastic and the world-building is stunning. You can check out the synopsis below: Delaney’s entire world is thrown into chaos after she is mistaken for Lissa Olena, an alien princess hiding out on Earth in order to escape an arranged marriage. Kidnapped by the princess’s head bodyguard, Ruckus, and imprisoned in an alien palace, Delaney is forced to impersonate the princess until Olena can be found. If she fails, it will lead to an alien war and the eventual enslavement of the entire human race. No pressure or anything. Factor in Trystan, the princess’s terrifying betrothed who is intent on unraveling all her secrets, and her own growing feelings for Ruckus, and Delaney is in way over her head. Anyway, so here's the quote I chose from page 56 of Amid Stars and Darkness: "I know this must be daunting, and that it can't be easy letting your guard down in a strange place but"- he held her gaze as if hoping she'd see the truth of it in his eyes- "you are safe here, Delaney. I won't let anything happen to you." This quote gives you a glimpse of what Delaney has already gone through, the troubles she's about to face, and the fact that even though we're only 56 pages in, something bad has already happened to her.
I won't tell you who she's talking to as I really encourage you to discover this book and these characters for yourself. Book 2 - Between Frost and Fury is due to be released in July, and I can't wait! 4/5/2018 15:55:04
