July was an amazing month for book boxes! Since both the FairyLoot and Illumicrate 'June' boxes were both delayed I ended up with a whopping 4 boxes all in the space of around two weeks. I've fallen a little bit behind with blogging because things have been crazy at work lately, but I'm doing my best to catch up. Now, let's have a quick reminder of the July 2021 FairyLoot theme. There are some stories that can be retold time and time again without ever feeling like it’s the same story. We love finding fresh takes on our favourite tales that surprise us in new and magical ways, which is why we’ve dedicated this entire theme to them! 💜 In this box you can expect items inspired by Spin The Dawn, A Court of Thorns and Roses, The Star-Touched Queen, Cinderella is Dead and Heartless. We are thrilled to reveal that this box will include a stunning booksleeve with artwork by the one and only @rosiethorns88. 💜 Our featured book of the month is a story that we loved and draws from “The Wild Swans” and East Asian folklore. This whimsical tale has a princess in exile, a shapeshifting dragon, six enchanted cranes, and a curse that needs to be broken. The FairyLoot exclusive edition will have an UNIQUE COVER, STENCIL & SPRAYED EDGES, ARTWORK ON THE REVERSE OF THE DUST JACKET by @sallteas, FOIL EMBOSSING ON THE CASE by @sallteas and will be SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. I'm super excited for the Cinderella is Dead and A Court of Thorns and Roses items. I have Heartless on my bookshelf (but haven't read it yet) and I just bought Spin the Dawn, so this might be one of the rare months where I know some of the fandoms. I also 'think' I know what the book is and only because I spotted it in Waterstones recently and had to force myself not to buy it. Okay, let's open it up! As always, there will be spoilers beyond this point so look away now if you don't want to see what's inside this box. This might be one of my all time favourite FairyLoot art prints by @taratjah. It's stunning and captures the theme perfectly. Is that a bag I see peeking out from behind the card? OMG IT'S A BOOK SLEEVE!! This is beautiful. I actually had my first ever neoprene book sleeve in the Illumicrate May 2021 'Change Your Stars' box and I love them. They're so much sturdier than fabric sleeves and the illustrations seem to be a much better quality. This one is also lined on the inside to keep my books warm and cosy and it has a really handy zip, which is a first for me and a feature I LOVE. This sleeve was designed by the very talented @rosiethorns88 and is inspired by The Blood of Starts duology by Elizabeth Lim. I literally bought the first book in this series, Spin the Dawn, from the bookshop last week and I'm now even more excited to read it! Next up, and sorry about the rubbish picture quality here, I pulled out the next instalment in FairyLoot's collectible tin range intended, I think, to store tea/coffee. Although, I suppose you could put anything in them really. I have two of these now and the design by @chattynora is beautiful, as ever, and featuring a lovely quote from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. If you remove the lid there's another airtight seal featuring a pair of wings. I like these tins but I'm not yet sure what I'm going to use them for...I'll need to think of some ideas. Maybe TBR jars? We'll see. Next up is an item that I LOVE and something I've never received in a book box before. It's an amazing umbrella featuring artwork inspired by Heartless by Marissa Meyer. I absolutely love this design, and I have a lovely Alice in Wonderland inspired dress that I can't wait to pair it with! YAY! I love bookish socks!! These socks look really comfy and colourful. They were designed by @catarinabookdesigns and feature gorgeous artwork inspired by Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Baryon, which I loved reading. Just before we get to the book, there are some really gorgeous print items in this box. The first being the two collectible tarot cards, the King & Queen of Wands which were designed by @morgana0anagrom and are inspired by the Caraval series by Stephanie Garber! The second item is this gorgeous foiled print by @kavon_kayleigh, featuring artwork from The Star-Touched Queen series by Roshani Chokshi. I see purple sprayed pages!! YES! This is exactly the book I'd guessed we'd be getting this month and I am so excited!! I almost bought this at the bookstore recently but had a feeling it'd be included in this box. So glad I waited because the customisations on this book are incredible. More on that in a moment. For now, here's the synopsis for Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim: Shiori, the only princess of Kiata, has a secret. Forbidden magic runs through her veins. Normally she conceals it well, but on the morning of her betrothal ceremony, Shiori loses control. At first, her mistake seems like a stroke of luck, forestalling the wedding she never wanted, but it also catches the attention of Raikama, her stepmother. Raikama has dark magic of her own, and she banishes the young princess, turning her brothers into cranes, and warning Shiori that she must speak of it to no one: for with every word that escapes her lips, one of her brothers will die. Penniless, voiceless, and alone, Shiori searches for her brothers, and, on her journey, uncovers a conspiracy to overtake the throne—a conspiracy more twisted and deceitful, more cunning and complex, than even Raikama's betrayal. Only Shiori can set the kingdom to rights, but to do so she must place her trust in the very boy she fought so hard not to marry. And she must embrace the magic she's been taught all her life to contain—no matter what it costs her. THIS SOUNDS AMAZING! Now, let's take a look at those customisations. The book comes with:
- FairyLoot exclusive cover - Stencil & sprayed edges - Artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket by @sallteas - Foil embossing on the case by @sallteas - Signed by the author - Author letter with artwork by @sallteas Overall, this is one of my all time favourite book boxes and I'm really excited to discover Elizabeth Lim! Thanks so much for checking out my unboxing! Now tell me, which items do you like the look of? Let me know in the comments! Comments are closed.
