Happy Sunday lovelies! I love doing these book tags and I spotted this one on Alyssa Cohen's Reading, Reading, Reading blog. I'm not sure who the original creator was. I'm really excited to do this one as I've been a book blogger for a while now, so this should be fun! Let's get to the questions. How long have you been a blogger? Just over 3 years! I first started blogging in December 2017 and it's been amazing! Books have always been important to me, and I love recommending books to other readers. Not only that, because of my blog, I've found so many amazing new books and authors and connected with a bunch of lovely bookish people. At what point do you think you will stop?Hopefully, never. I certainly don't have plans to stop anytime soon. Honestly, if I could do it full time, I would. What is the best thing? The books, definitely the books. Reading them, reviewing them, chatting about them, recommending them. I can't get enough of the books, which I guess is why I now run a monthly podcast and book club as well! What is the worst thing? Rejection, reading slumps and sometimes feeling like you're doing it all for nothing and no one even cares what you write. Obviously, getting rejected for an ARC of a book or a collaboration you really, really want can be tough and make you feel a bit low, but my advice would be to persevere and to only request the books you'll do your very best to read and that you think you'll enjoy. There's really no point applying for every book that comes your way, it's best to focus only on the ones you really do want. Reading slumps are HARD, especially when you feel like you have to keep up with reading and reviewing a certain number of books to stay current as a book blogger, but here my advice would be to take it at your own pace. Review what you want, not just what's popular, and stick to a reading/reviewing schedule that suits you. Otherwise, you might find yourself losing the passion you had for blogging when you started. I try not to pay too much attention to how many likes, comments and views I'm getting on my posts, other than the general stats I send when requesting ARCs, because sometimes it does feel like you're writing for no one other than yourself, but I've learned to accept that that's okay too, and you'll be surprised about when comments might pop up on your posts, even months or years down the line. How long does it take you to create/find pictures to use? Not too long. I have a template setup in Canva for all of my blog headings and just switch out the images using free-to-use stock images from sites like Unsplash and Pixabay. It's a great way to keep my blog headers looking fresh but with a running theme/layout. It makes creating new blog images super easy. For book covers, I just grab them from Goodreads, and make sure to link them back. Who’s your book crush? How long have you got? 😅 Too many to count, honestly. Which author would you like to have on your blog? I'd love to feature any of the author's who's books feature on my blog, particularly indie authors who work so, so hard for their books to see the light of day. I think my dream author though would be Simon James Green who's books I absolutely adore! What do you wear when you write your blog?Odd question! Clothes?! 😅 I don't know how to answer this. How long does it take you to prepare? Ummm, I don't know. I guess it depends. I have a list of blogs that I want to write each month and for each book I read I make notes, either as I'm reading or immediately once I'm done, to help me write my posts. Sometimes a post can take less than 30 minutes to write, other times it can be hours. How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture? For the most part it's really inclusive and supportive but there have been times where it's been a little toxic around one subject or another. I try to keep out of any drama and keep my focus on books, since they're the reason I love to blog. What do you think one should do to have a successful blog? I don't think there's any one or other thing you can do to make your blog a success. I think it takes a mixture of time, passion and luck. My only advice would be to be as consistent as you can, if people love reading your posts they won't wait to wait months between each one, and to only do the things you enjoy. Don't push yourself too hard. And finally, don't be afraid to ask. Whether it's requesting an ARC, asking a company if you can rep for them, or asking another blogger to collaborate on something. The worse they can say is no, and you can always try again next time. Who do you tag? As always, anyone who wants to take part! That was a lot of fun and hopefully helpful to anyone thinking of starting a new book blog. If you're new to the community, or if you just want to say hi, feel free to leave a comment below!
