Happy Valentine's Day folks! I don't really celebrate valentine's day but wasn't sure what else to post today, so this is a last minute effort and more about my love of books than anything else. I spotted this tag over on Jenniely and it was originally created by Taiwo. 1. What book(s) have you been given as a gift that you loved?Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. My sister got this for me as a gift recently and I absolutely loved it! 2. What book(s) would you like to give as a gift to someone else? The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune!! Haha, I'm only partially joking (I recommend this to everyone!). Honestly, it depends. I absolutely love buying books for family and friends, but I do try really hard to choose the perfect book for them based on the things they like. 3. If you could gift a random person any bookish item, what would it be? The House in the- No? Sorry, I'll stop. Hmm, this one's tough. Bookmarks maybe or specific bookish merch. Again, I love tracking down super specific bookish gifts that I think are perfect for certain people. For example, I made a DIY book box for my sister and her partner for Christmas which was basically an all inclusive bookish night in. I think inside I put; ground coffee, hot chocolate powder and mini marshmallows, chocolate and fudge, The Hogfather DVD, a reading journal, Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, The Shadow's Between Us by Tricia Levenseller, a Throne of Glass colouring book, a dusty book scented candle, an Ash Princess candle, and a cemetery boys pin. 4. If you could gift a random person any non-bookish item, what would it be? I honestly don't know. I like to know a person well enough to know what they'd like before I get them something. 5. What do you say when a person gives you a gift you don’t like? Thank you! And then, when they're not looking, I casually gift it to someone I think will appreciate it more than I will. 6. Mention a book based around Valentine’s Day. Crap, why is it the only book I can think of is my own WIP? 😂 I honestly can't remember any other books with Valentine's Day in them. Ummm, okay, so instead I'm going to mention the next book on my TBR which is A Pho Love Story by Loan Le. It has love in the title, so that counts right? Anyway, this book sounds absolutely adorable and it's mine and Sophie's choice for the Turn the Page February book club! 7. Mention any two tips for blogging as a gift to other bloggers and to those who may want to start a blog. I'm probably not the best person to be giving advice because my blog is so inconsistent but here goes: 1. Getting ARCs to review isn't going to happen over night. It takes time to build a reputation. That being said, I'd highly recommend NetGalley and the Read it and Reap Goodreads group as your starting point once you've reviewed some of the books you already own. With NetGalley, make sure you flesh out your bio as well as you can but don't include too much personal info, publisher's don't really seem to care and, above all else, make sure you copy your reviews to retail sites to help drive reviews and sales for authors (every review really helps the authors, and you, since publisher's will see that you're committed to helping authors to succeed.) 2. Don't ever let anyone shame you for what you like to read or for how you choose to run your blog. People have so many opinions about what books are and aren't worth reading or how many followers you need before you can call yourself a successful blogger and honestly, my only advice is to ignore it all. Read the books that make you happy, write the blogs that make you enjoy doing and just remember that blogging is something you started for fun, it doesn't have to be competitive. 8. Link to some posts by other bloggers that you loved or were very helpful.Hmm, I'm really bad and tend to watch more booktube videos than I read blogs, only because by the time I'm finished with work at the end of the day my eyes are so drained from reading all day and I tend to listen to booktube videos so I don't have to read words. So instead, I'm going to mention my favourite booktuber at the moment, Chronicles of Noria. I love Noria. Her humour, her singing, her gifs and her cat make her videos so much fun! Now, it's your turn! I'm tagging anyone who wants to take part, and wishing you a great day whether you celebrate or not.
