It's that time of the month again where I share with you my Book Box Club unboxing. I absolutely loved my February box and getting these boxes is such a highlight each month! Before we get started, here's a quick reminder of the March 2021 theme reveal: Choose your allies wisely... Our March theme is AGAINST THE DARK 🕯📖✨and will pay homage to some of fiction's most daring and deadly duels between the forces of good and evil! Book Box Club members be warned - it's time for battle, are you ready? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our March read is a dark and powerful tale of shadows, monsters, revenge and unlikely friendships, set during World War II. With a brilliantly imagined blend of real-world and fantasy, a swoon-worthy romance and plenty of demons to vanquish, this stunning hardback is sure to keep you burning the midnight oil! It's super fast-paced, tense and enthralling - perfect for fans of of Stranger Things and Shadow and Bone! Our featured read will arrive beautifully gift-wrapped and will be accompanied by a bookplate signed by the author.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Our March box will be crammed with goodies inspired by some of fiction's most fearsome warriors! We have allied ourselves with some super talented creators who will craft bespoke items especially for our March members. Standby for a supplier reveal next week!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I LOVE Stranger Things, so I'm really hoping there will be a Stranger Things inspired item. I've also heard that the book features an LGBTQ+ romance, which is super exciting! Who's ready to jump in? Obviously, there will be spoilers for this box beyond this point, so stop reading now if you don't want to know what's in this one. ⠀ This artwork is awesome, I can't wait to add it to my new book box art folder from last month's box. As always, Book Box Club art is designed by Ali Jo Art. Now time to see what's beneath that pretty blue paper! Eeek! I LOVE these items (please excuse the photo quality - my lighting was awful today!) The lip balm is a minty vegan balm created and designed by Mad About Nature. It's gorgeous! It smells like After Eight mints and kind of makes me want to eat my own lips 😅The artwork on the front says, For the Book Thieves and is a tribute to The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. (Update 29th March 2021: Book Box Club announced a printing mistake and that this item is not actually vegan. It doesn't affect me personally, but it might affect others. Link to the post here.) I'm ashamed by how long it took me to realise that the second item in this photo is inspired by the leaves of Lorien in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein. I'm obsessed with LOTR and this necklace by Oh Panda Eyes is really pretty. It's also really delicate, and I love that it's silver! THIS IS STUNNING! I was really excited when I found out this box was going to contain a book-end and admit that I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but it's beautiful. I've never had a book-end this colourful before, the design by Hannah Lock is really gorgeous and makes me feel really nostalgic as I remember all those nights reading under the covers with a torch when I was supposed to be asleep. I'm looking forward to finding the perfect spot for this on my bookshelves. This Stranger Things notebook is fantastic! I love how No.6 The Studio have incorporated The Upside Down! The paper inside is unlined so I'm not sure yet what I'm going to use it for, although I have been drawing more lately and it could be the perfect place to keep some of my sketches. The little reading light by IF is really small but super bright and compliments this box perfectly. It's going to be great for reading at night. Last, but never least, it's time for this month's featured book! Now, Book Box Club, did let us know that there was a delay on the usual signed bookplate for this book, so I'm guessing they'll send that separately once they have it (it's always nice to have a signed book!) So, let's check out the synopsis for The Shadow War by Lindsay Smith: World War II is raging, and five teens are looking to make a mark. Daniel and Rebeka seek revenge against the Nazis who slaughtered their family; Simone is determined to fight back against the oppressors who ruined her life and corrupted her girlfriend; Phillip aims to prove that he's better than his worst mistakes; and Liam is searching for a way to control the portal to the shadow world he's uncovered, and the monsters that live within it--before the Nazi regime can do the same. When the five meet, and begrudgingly team up, in the forests of Germany, none of them knows what their future might hold. As they race against time, war, and enemies from both this world and another, Liam, Daniel, Rebeka, Phillip, and Simone know that all they can count on is their own determination and will to survive. With their world turned upside down, and the shadow realm looming ominously large--and threateningly close--the course of history and the very fate of humanity rest in their hands. Still, the most important question remains: Will they be able to save it? So, this book is a YA, Historical/Sci-Fi with an LGBTQ+ love story at its centre. It's not a book I'd normally choose for myself as I don't really read historical fiction, but it does sound really interesting and I'm looking forward to getting to know these characters. Overall, this box was lots of fun to open. I think my favourite items are definitely the lip balm, book-end and the necklace, but I do also really love the Stranger Things notebook and the mini book light.
